Connecticut military homecoming photographer

your second heart experience

It's finally the big day! You made it!
As a submarine wife whose husband deployed three times, I've been there!
You have totally crushed it! You've dealt with every obstacle, illness, car breakdown, and catastrophe deployment could throw your way, and you've made it through to the other side! Just a few more hours and you'll have your special someone back in your arms!
I've been in Groton since 2014, so I'm very familiar with the base and what to expect. I'm happy to photograph your homecoming for your command!

deployment is finally over!

I'm so glad you found me!

Send me a message & let's make sure I'm available for your homecoming. I no longer book individual clients for homecomings, so I just need to make sure I am not traveling or unavailable during the approximate time frame of your homecoming.

1. Say Hello

2. Let's get it on the calendar... kind of

As a sub wife and a former ombudsman, OPSEC is way more important to me than an actual calendar date. We'll book your session with the name of the command (to make sure I don't double book) and an approximate month when they come home. When it is safe to share an exact date, send me a message & I'll mark off your date.

While I have my own base access and don't need you to get that set up, I do request that you tell your ombudsman or squadron that you are bringing a photographer who needs media access.

3. ask me Anything

I'm here to guide you through this entire process! Please ask me any questions you may have about your upcoming session.

4. HOMecoming day!

YAY! IT'S FINALLY HERE!
I can meet you at the pier or at Eastern Point (or, if you're not a sub spouse, I'll meet you wherever you need).
I aim to arrive about an hour before the homecoming time to get the anticipation and photograph the posters, signs, and emotions beforehand. I typically go up the pier with the media and photograph the behind the scenes, and then all the magic happens!

5. your photographs

Homecomings have a priority in the editing queue! I know you are so, so, so excited to share a photo from this special day, so homecomings are delivered within 48 hours of your session so you can update your Facebook photo and tell the world your special person is finally home!

say hello

As of March 2024, I no longer offer homecoming photography for single clients. All homecomings may be booked by a command representative and I will do my best to capture any moments around me as they happen, but I do not guarantee coverage of any specific family or person.

All homecoming photos are complimentary as a thank you to the sailors and families for their sacrifices.

other military sessions

Whether you're getting promoted, moving to a new command, or retiring from the military completely, I am available to photograph military ceremonies of all kinds.

Event photography is documentary and all inclusive (just like homecomings). We will take some moments to create posed images from your day (with whomever you'd like that is important to you), but the majority of your images will be documenting your ceremony and the emotions during it.

"...I could not be happier with the experience and photos. Jessica was communicative, professional, considerate and kind... Having a newborn is very challenging and everything Jess did made the process of having photos taken easier... The photos came out beautifully. We bought the complete package with the photo book, which Jess personally designed the layout. The photo book was beautiful. I highly recommend buying it! We'll cherish these photos for the rest of our lives."

- Emily

"As a first time mom, I wanted to have pictures taken to capture our nursing journey together. Breastfeeding is such an intimate bond between mom and baby and Jess captured that intimacy beautifully during our session. She was super down to earth and easy to talk to which made the session feel comfortable and natural. If you’re on the fence about doing a nursing session, don’t be! This is your sign to book it with Jess, you won’t regret it. I will treasure these pictures forever!"

-Caitlyn

"Jessica has done family photos for us three times now and each time I love our pictures even more. She is very easy to communicate with, laid back, and such a joy to work with. Personally, I love her 15 minute sessions she offers throughout the year because let’s be real- toddlers and husbands only have so much patience. I highly recommend her for any of your photography needs!"

-Emily

"With my first son, I didn’t get many photos to capture our nursing journey and when it abruptly came to an end nine months in, I regretted that deeply. With my second babe, I knew I needed to do better. This is the best, most rewarding time in my life and I needed photos to capture that memory forever. Jes absolutely exceeded my expectations. We walked and talked about life while we scoped out a beautiful location she recommended. I got to sit back and nurse my son out in the sun and didn’t feel like I was doing it just for a photo. It felt natural and comfortable with her as my photographer. Highly recommend her..."

-Kelsey

"I can’t recommend Jessica enough! I reached out to her the day before my husband left on deployment to book her for homecoming. Because she only does one family per command, I wanted to make sure I got to her early. She not only captured our moments, but that of many of the other families there as well. If you are thinking about booking a photographer for homecoming, do not hesitate and reach out!"

- Jill

"Jessica was fantastic shooting my daughter's first birthday cake smash session! She was professional and extremely patient. I knew I was going to love our pictures before we even received our gallery. She truly cared about our session down to the colors I wanted in the background, helping me choose an outfit, and offering an allergen friendly cake, which we needed! I can't wait for our next session with Second Heart Photography!"

- Nicole

"Jessica is amazing to work with and extremely patient and understanding for when it comes to working around a military schedule! Anytime anyone ask me about a local newborn photographer I always recommend her ever since she did our fresh 48."

- Madison
